Lets Take a Glance to The Beauty of Indonesian Tropical Rainforest of Berau, East Borneo.

Every people must have their dreams to visit somewhere place. Mine came true on last February 2015, when I got a chance to explore East Borneo, a paradise of rainforest ecosystem which I want to visit the most. The beauty never fades away, permanently saved on my mind. I really am amazed with the rich of biodiversity found there. Well known of its mascot, Buceros rhinoceros hornbills, East Borneo especially Berau saved treasures under its soil. My friends and I stayed for about two months to flirt with nature of Berau. Coal mining and fast regeneration dipterocarp trees were completely a magic. Every morning we had to get up early to seek for kerantungan which had fallen from its tree. We can also find lahung and lay. Lahung had red thorns, while lay’s were yellow. Kerantungan, lahung and lay were kind of endemic fruits, the same family as durian. Bird perching and a morning fog rising from the stands trully made may day ! How can I just forget this incredible experience then ?
Indigeneous people lived in harmony. They hunted for some animals and aloe wood-the fragrant heartwood of a tropical asian tree. Of course, our aloe was sent to all around the world to create best ever parfume. The way of theirs to protect the Bangeris tree ( Koompassia excelsa ) was awe-inspiring. Bangeris was the home of honey bear and the local people took the honeycomb with their traditional ways. We could take a bath on super clear river or hang upon a liana each day.
We did all as assignment from our campus to see how Inhutani manage the forest there. Everytime I enter the forest, I feel that they’re alive. Everytime I travel, I learn. A single tree can be a world of thousand creatures. It may contain rare species, unique epiphytes or anything else. we may not know the benefits of them today, all we know is that they are life balancing. But who knows, one day it could be a medicine from a diseases that we do not know the cure nowadays.
I remember about Paul Nicklen, a natgeo photographer, said “ Photography and journalism are much powerful tools when it comes to effecting change”

So, let’s travel, let’s capture through our lense and don’t forget to write it.
